Dear Boss,
I wanted to give you three useful things for Christmas this year:
I’ve set up a Twitter account in your name. Now don’t worry, you don’t need to write anything straight away. The object is to watch and listen first. Twitter’s early adopters tend to be bloggers, journalists and mouthy, talkative individuals who are, or could be talking, about our company. Listening is good. Here's slideshow and a succinct guide to get you started.
Knowing how much you like dashboards, I’ve installed Tweetdeck. Here you’ll see a bunch of columns. One called “mentions” tracks how many times our company is mentioned in the Twittersphere; another called “Influencers” that follows the tweets of influential bloggers (people whose opinions and views reach hundreds of others) in our sector.
I’ve also included (courtesy of DestiCorp) a really cool list of seven videos to help shift your thinking about marketing in a networked economy. After all those movie re-runs, I thought you'd appreciate something more stimluating and I suspect that, by Boxing Day, your thoughts will already be turning back to the office.
Perhaps under the influence of a ghost of Christmas Past, Eric Hoffer once said:
In times of change, the learners will inherit the earth while the learned find themselves beautifully equipped to succeed in a world that no longer exists.
On reflection, the best Christmas gift awaits you when you return to the office after the holidays. It’s the seething, pent up creativity of your people just itching to demonstrate what’s possible, as opposed to what’s usual, hacked best practice, and conventional. All you have to do is ask them to show you – in their way, of course, not yours!
Happy Holidays and here's wishing us a prosperous 2009 - it's likely to be a blast!
Ooops, I almost forgot, DestiCorp has another surprise for dessert - click here!!
