They say a picture can convey a thousand words and I know you are tired of reading memos and briefing notes – so take some out over the Christmas break – while you're out the office and no one is watching – to dig deeper into this social media stuff. Here are 7 videos I’ve reviewed that are useful learning tools…You can look at them in any order but, if you are new to the subject, start with 1 and work your way through.
1. Dramatic Shift in Marketing Reality: Scholz & Friends
Company Link: here http://www.s-f.com/
Length: 3.3 minutes
Comment: uses a cartoon approach to tell the story of the shift from push, interruptive marketing to the emergence of moreinteractive social approaches.

Comment: I'm sure you'll have seen this - after all some 1.6 million other people have but just in case. Turn down the loud music and press the pause button frequently to absorb the steady onslaught of facts designed to "shock and awe". Makes some good points - 1.6 million people can't all be wrong, can they?
3. Social Media in Plain Language
Company Link: here
Comment: A much callmer - albeit somewhat patronizing, "techy" kind of flic but it also communicates some key overview points.
4. Clay Shirky at TED
Blog Link: here
Comment: if you're ready for a more traditional lecture from a master at the art of simple presentation and deeper thought, you can do no better than listen to this address which really digs behind the shiny gadgets and gizmo's and susses out the deeper trends and their implications
5. Socialnomic ROI, by Eric Qualman
Company Link: here
Comment: Everyone is screaming for numbers that quantify the ROI on social media activity so Eric screams back in this slide video of more facts suggesting that Social Media is here to stay.
5. Dave Caroll gets His Own Back on United Airlines
Comment: it's becoming a cliche for peopel like me to make the statement that power has shifted to the customer and they now possess both the tools and the megaphones to make any grievances heard and not always by the people the brand would like to hear. This is the video made by an irate passenger on a United Airlines flight where he saw his precious guitar being thrown from one agent to another. It wasn't the incident alone that caused Dave to see red, it was the UA staff's response afterwards...The movie has already been viewed X times; United have no power to remove so the viewership will go up even further over time and every UA passenger will be looking out the window at hose baggage handlers - I know I did!
6. US NOW
Comment: if you've kep at this viewing program so far, then there's real hope for your company. US Now is a very different kind of documentary - set mostly in Europe, it investigate sthe way in which social media democratizes everything - even the selection of a football team and introduces the potential and complex array of outcomes and implications.
Us Now from Banyak Films on Vimeo.
7. How Kevin Bacon Cured Cancer
Watch: here
Comment: I've saved the best to last. This is a dicumentary produced by the Australian Broadcasting Company and provides a fascinating and assimilable introduction to the new science of networks. It sets out to prove that the urban myth of "six degrees of separation" is not a myth but a foundation concept explaining how networks work. Nature, it seems obeys the law of networks more than laws associated with machines and unravelling these laws will help us live more effectively as part of an embedded set of networked systems
